That said, what I am trying to offer is that from a long time gas enthusiast.
Rear X engines like the RCMK R & RZ or converted Zenoahs at this time have very limited header options.
Hull set up is different from a side x due too weight distribution of pipe being further back.
Torque is a tad less with rear x than side x due to piston thrust not sealing quite as well over intake port, internal wear from piston thrusting against open transfer passages greater than side x.
While these are all very minor things, as a NEW TO GAS boater the side x engines are so well refined and reliable at this point it is IMHO the best place to start using a side X over a rear.
** Exception to above issues when cylinder has a full liner like J&G conversions or Quick draw engines. If racing, local sanctions/rules of class's you may run or may not allow use of billet top ends or engine types.
