Supertigre 3250

JB1 created the topic: Supertigre 3250

Hello, I have a Supertigre 3250 from a airplane of mine that has been converted with a ignition system ans a walbro carb so it now runs on gas. I was thinking of trying to use it in a Zipp Kits Easy Vee. Do you think this is possible? My main concern would be if there is a way to put on a flywheel for starting and also a way to hook up the prop shaft to it. I mainly would like to use it because I already have itand it is a sweet running engine. Any help or tips would be great. Thank You.

Ok I think I can mount the engine and get running hardware for it but my main concern now is if being strictly air cooled can work. I could make a air scoop that will direct air onto the motor. Do you think this would be enough? Thanks

I don't really know that engine myself, but I know a lot of sport boats use air cooled gas engines without problems...as long as the engine isn't too enclosed inside the boat.

Hi,
Yes. Marc is absolutely right about getting air circulation into the hull and around the engine.
You mentioned you were going to put it in an Easy Vee, well that is an excellent choice as it is run with an open half deck and there would be plenty of air and occasionly water circulating around the engine.
Good luck with your project and let us know how it turns out. :)

If you don't have a way of cooling the engine, you will most likely burn it up.

I dont know, maybe I will scrap the idea of using this engine. I used to race Karts and the engines had no cooling, just the air blowing on the fins from moving. This engine in a boat seems like it would be the same if I had a scoop to direct the air onto it. With the kart engines we ran up to 360 degrees hot. I havnnt ran this engine yet with the spark and gas carb conversion yet so Either way I am going to set it up on a test stand and run it with a prop on it and see what temp it runs at. Then I will put a pusher prop on so it still has a load on it but no air blowing on it and blow a fan on it to try to simulate air from the boat moving and see how hot it gets and how fast and go from there.

By the way, I am pretty new to running boats. I an now running and racing nitro tunnel hulls with OS outboards, so running gas boats will be new to me. The Easy Vee kit will be comming in soon so I have plenty of time to decide on a engine. When I get this Supertigre running on stand I will let you know how it goes. Thanks

I think it probably will work.
