RCMK 4 deg Adavance

andym created the topic: RCMK 4 deg Adavance

Just wondering if anyone has run a Evo on the 4 deg advance setting ?? What is the results ? Am seeing RPM in excess of 20,000 but no torque over 16,000 or so. Would the 4 deg advance lift the torque higher in the rev range ?
Cheers

I have not tested this myself, maybe Scott has... It's normal for the power to go down after peak (which is normally around 15 - 17k on modded Zens and RCMK. That's why we normally prop our boats to spin around that range for heat racing. I've never put an RCMK on the dyno to see the difference between the timings...if I can find the time, I will give it a try and see. Problem I have is I only have Rear Exhaust RCMKs and my dyno is not setup for them...I would have to get a side exhaust engine to test it.

Sadly guys have nothing to offer other than this ....
In all the years I tuned on Zenoahs advancing timing from the stock position only added a bit of torque down low at mid rpm levels doing nothing for top rpm power.
So ... now running exclusively RCMK's, I have seen no reason to even fool with timing changes.

* I would however think with advance position used, definitely use at minimum regular grade gas and NOT lower octane camp fuel ;)
