RCMK EVO PULL STARTER

foxtrot created the topic: RCMK EVO PULL STARTER

Hi guys.

I,ve just come from my boat club afer a very fine day of practicing for a race next weekend. I ve got a blade hull with rcmk evo motor, just finished running her in nicely with 5 liters of fuel mixed @ 20:1 mineral oil and after leaning the needles out a bit, did a plug chop and saw the plug being perfect biscuit colour, i then just riched her up 1/8th again cause she's still not run in completely. Just before my last run i tried starting her up but the recoil starter packed up completely. I'm a bit pushed for time and it seems like the only recoil starter i can find in time is for a zenoah. Does anybody know if i can just bolt the zen recoil starter on and if it would function perfectly?

Can i expect my dealer to replace the faulty starter as well or are there no guarentee on the recoil starter?

Regards

A Zenoah pull starter will work fine. You'll have to ask your dealer about replacing the old unit. If it was due to a defect, they probably will replace it, if it was due to miss use, maybe not.

Thanx for clearing up that issue, just as long as it's a "drop in" replacement, i'm not so sure about the miss use issue, when i took the recoil starter off i saw the plastic/nylon bit that ingages with the dog on the crank went completely oval. Although the motor felt a bit " hydro locked" before the recoil starter gave up the ghost... Maby you can explain to me asswell why sometimes she pulls very easy and then sometimes she pulls like she's got twice the compression? I'm still to learn the best way to consistently pull thru smoothly, i saw some guys first pulling slowly, maby to tdc, or bdc and then give it a very ssmooth tug without the boat being jerked of the boatstand like i sometimes do. Any help/advice would be very welcome.

I threw mine away as soon as I got it and put a Zenoah easy start on, best money I ever spent on a RCMK except for the 2mm stroker crank, NFS pipe etc etc

I have had my evo for a while now, 2mm stroker crank and some wild port work, this thing hauls the mail now. But by far the best thing I have done is the easy starter from Zenoah. Hands down the most user friendly

Like everyone else I have changed to the Zenoah East Start and have not looked back, but I have a bit of the ol' rth rite us and also use the Geezer pulleys and a starter which are available on most websites.

Thanx for the replies guys, it's been a while since i visited the site, but my dealer (Garry from hobby center) replaced the broken pull start without any complains, i bought another one asswell just to have as a spare, if this becomes a constant problem, or if i run out of pullstarts :P :P i'l be getting the easystart asap. I think i might have improved my tecnique a bit cause she's no longer jumping of my stand... Anybody knows what prop seems to be the benchmark for this motor? Not outright speed, but race conditions, not overrevving or putting strain and get the hull up to speed after slowing down.

I like the 2716 2 blade (H) from ABC. I notched the trailing edge with a small cut on each side of the hub and it runs great. Good speed, no over reving and you can buy the prop for 25 bucks and sharpen and balance your self.

Oh yeah, I just got the EZ start for my Evo and it is the besst 35 dollars I have ever spent. Instead of wearing out my arm, it starts on the first pull every time. What a difference for this motor! Great little device and makes lake time and testing that much easier.
