Bummer :( Any idea what caused the bearing failure?

This article shows a basic teardown and reassemble... it's actually pretty straight forward. You can do as in the article and use a torch to heat the cases to drop and fit the bearings or use your oven at 350-375. I use the torch myself but that's just me.

You are refering to the piston bearing that broke right? Not the crank bearing I hope...

We've seriously abused Quickdraws and Zenoahs and never had a needle bearing failure. Others have overheated (turned blue) the rod bearing from continuous high rpm operation without failure. Did you hydraulic the engine? That could bend the rod or hurt the bearing race enough to cause failure.

The symptoms you describe really sound like the motor was sucking air somewhere causing it to go wild (and run lean). Possibly at the carb spacer among other places... :(
