twin engine drives / rudder

Canadian Hot Rod RC Boats created the topic: twin engine drives / rudder

I have a couple 60" twin engine boats (side by side Zenoah) - one twin rudder and one (just finishing) single rudder and a 50" twin (about 1/2 complete) and am wondering ... with the single rudder would it be better to have rudder close to boat and between props ---- or futher back away from the props? I was told closer would help 'balance' engine rpm by seperating the props but futher back steers better and the boat is faster.

twin engines with twin drives - rudder close or extended ???

Thanks

Randy

i'm no pro but i would think you would want your rudder in clean water to get a bite, so i go with extended.

Good question. Not much info out there on twins honestly. On my twin Procat 50" I followed Remy's (Aeromarine) suggestions and ran the inline rudder.. Rudder behind strut. He said start with 2 rudders, on on each strut then drop to one and see if it still turns good. I currently have 1 rudder on right strut and propblast water pickup on the left strut. Ran it a couple times and seemed to turn not too bad. Will know more with time.

To answer your question, if I had to chose I would go with extended. This is just a guess though.

Personally id run one single rudder extended back a little.Remember this one Randy? seems to run well and turn just fine with this setup.

With the drives spread that far apart, I would center the rudder also. My cat has the drives much closer together, so centering the rudder would be a lot harder. :)

No video of my twin yet...ran into some small engine bugs and haven't had time to fix it yet. I hope to get it back in the water before the lakes freeze up!

HI
Hope these work will find out tomorrow (hopefully -7C right now)

I went with the single rudders on both the twin engine 50 (modified O Neill's) and the twin 60

Thanks
