getting started!!!- i need a hull and lots of help!!!!!!

marc replied the topic: Re:getting started!!!- i need a hull and lots of help!!!!!!

Indeed, there is NOTHING wrong with using a weedy engine... I should have phrased my first reply differently. Just wanted him to weigh the options and make a decision knowing all the facts...I personally have only had one weedy engine powered gas boat, and it wasn't a good experience. Almost made me quite and get out (I was running nitro before that and that boat was so slow I thought all gas boats would be like that). Fortunately I didn't give up. :)

Boats are cool, no matter what the power is! :drinks:

First let me say that vid was the first run with no fine tuning and no prop adjustments and with an oversized prop because hed allready bought it so we tested it with it.The boat ran for like 15 mins and then it was shipped off to its owner. As i said shes running much faster now as i modded his prop and reballanced it for him as well as fine tuning the carb before i sent it off.Its still running with the stock carb too as he couldnt afford a walbro one at the time.Your saying your weedy powered boat is twice as fast so that means shes doing over 50 mph with no tuned pipe id like to see that i really would  .

Ozpulse wrote:I ran a mod 472/2 on my Insane 45" mono a while back, it was a really fast prop by rounding the tips and adding cup on the blades, if your mod 260 can pull a mod 472, your boat would go faster with a good pipe system.

I agree with Roger... Was going to post it at some point. For the money you'll spend on wood materials and time to trace and cut the parts out with, it is well worth the money. They nearly put themselves together, and you have support to boot. They sell hardware, so you can almost put something together package-wise. Not to mention a wealth of knowledge to pull from on this site. Not too sure on the motor you have, I know the rails will probably need to be altered, or you could sell that motor and buy a 230 or 260. That is more the standard way to go. You also will eliminate a step for yourself if you decide to go with a Zen later.:? ;)

Zippkits make exellent kits but theres nothing wrong with using the plans available theyre simple to follow and the boat is every bit as good as the easy vee ;) .Also 5" rails is what i used for the weedy powered boats ive built so when or if you want to get a zenoah later all you need is mounts ,a pipe and your good to go.

I agree with that Mart.. My thought was that you may have to move the motor and everything more when rebalancing the hull when you switch motor types and such. Being a newby, with the kit, at least the parts are almost trimmed to size, so its a little easier. Its harder for a first time builder to make a mistake with a kit like the easy vee. Just trying to help with the "frustration factor." We all go through it.

Have to agree on the Easy Vee. It's a great kit and at around $60 you can't save much by going the other route except if purely for the desire to build totally from scratch.

Yea the kits are very nice and easy to build. That said if you do decide to use the plans theyre pretty easy to figure out.Sure if you do want to go with a zenoah later then you might have to move the motor slightly it just depends ,so long as she balalnces arround 30-32 % then she will be fine.Incidently once id removed part of the shroud on the weedy the weight difference compaired to the zen wasnt really as much as people told me it would b.A few ounces is all certainly not twice the weight as i was told when i first started out.Dont be put off if its what you want to do,i plan on using one in my sons boat as they make great first starter boats for anyone wanting to give it a go.Leave the shroud on in front though as it helps direct the air to where its needed.
