Fast Cat's

Seatard created the topic: Fast Cat's

I'm looking to start a new catamaran project and was wondering if anyone has input on the AC R-42 hull. I love the line's but cant find a whole lot of real world feed back on performance.

It's a really nice cat and the quality of AC Boats is second to none. I do think however that due to it's size that it may not be optimal for oval racing, but more of a speed cat. Just my opinion though. I know some guys are racing them with success. I'm sure some guys will chime in here.

Pretty sure Wally found the limit for speed with the R42 to be right around 70 before it started blowing off. The quality is nice though.

I would be happy as could be with anything in the 60's. The ability to run in less than perfect conditions is a must for me , not really building it to race but you never know !

A sprintcat is a very Versatile cat.....Can be set/up to Oval race or Straightline for topend. Handles either one well when set/up correctly.

Sprintcat's do seem to be pretty popular so there must be something to it. Is the power plant a big factor when picking a cat ? cause I'm saveing my quarters for a QD25 ht , something like 6 HP or better right?
