Prop in front of or behind rudder???

gforce created the topic: Prop in front of or behind rudder???

Hey guys I have been looking at hundreds of rc boat pics and I have noticed some weird things. Some people tell me that when you set up a boat you want the leading edge of the prop to be even with the trailing edge of the rudder. This setup allows the rudder to not get in the way of the prop wash wile at speed. The problem is that I have seen boats rigged with a huge rudder setback that for sure has the rudder in the prop wash. What gives?? Whats the correct way???? Thanks...

In most cases the rudder placement has a reactive force on the transom of hull that will effect the roll effect & side swing.

Further back generally, greater the roll effect which is why you see LONG brackets placing rudder behind prop on Mono hulls.

Hydros, Sports & Riggers tend to like rudder up close to transom, with prop out beyond it.

Cats can go either way and more a hull specific thing.

This I hope helps you .... just a base line of the typical applications.
