It is a very good race mono with a proven track record. It's been around for a long time. I raced the Gen2 for some time, but I feel the Gen1 is better overall for racing. Now they also have the Gen3 which is quite similar to the Gen1 but with bigger engine bay area and available offshore hatch. This version is a bit faster than the Gen1 because of slight modifications to the bottom but some still prefer the Gen1 over it. I raced the Gen3 last season with good results. The only problem I can see people getting into is hooking in turns on occasion, but that can be eliminated with proper balance of the hull. I also find it helps to "blip" the throttle when entering turns to get it to settle and carve the turn better. In my opinion the Gen1 and 3 are great racing monos, but they must be driven...they are not for the guys that don't use the throttle finger. ;)

Set up properly, the Insane gen 1 is a great race boat. Very competetive and a good rough water boat. Just follow Jeff's set up sheet to the letter.

Hello Thomas,

I have two Insane Mono's with Jeff's up to date setup. One of them I left a 1/4" gap between the two trim tabs. I found that it tends to rock side to side at full speed on the straightaway.

On the second boat I spaced the tabs 1/2" gap between the two tabs and the rocking stopped.
Not sure if I solved the problem by doing this, but the second one runs a whole lot better with this small change. Otherwise follow the setup carefully and accurate and you should have a good race mono.

I found that both of my boats like 2 blade props instead of the 3 blade.

I used to run My Insane mono's with no plates and about 3 degrees negative on the drive. Ihe boat plowed like a destroyer in smooth water, but when the water got a little chewed up with 6 boats on the water, the ruffer it got the faster the boat went.

Jeffs setup sheet did not work for me...because my boat did NOT like being balanced where it did with the motor at 14.5" foward of transom.

Sure would be nice if people would give CG % numbers instead of telling you to mount the motor in a specific spot

I ran my Gen 1 Insanes with the engines about 13 1/2 inches from the inside of the transom, and the prop 4 inches behind the boat to the leading edge of the prop.

When I started running Insane boats, there was no set up sheet.
