Hi guys

Why are zero drag seals hade from brass and not phosphor bronze or oilite?

I think oilite or similar would be useful if the seals were actually making contact, but the zero drag seals are non-contact.

Maybe the choice for brass is based on it's machineability properties, not sure... maybe someone else will have a better answer.

Under normal operation the seals run with clearance and an oil film makes the seal. They are not loaded against the shaft at all. Nearly any material would work and brass is softer than the shaft so it won't score it if contact is made. Brass is also reasonably corrosion resistant, easy to machine, and inexpensive.

Thanks for the info. guys, does any body know the correct clearence between shaft and seal.The set I measuerd was 0.05 mm bigger than the crank.
