measuring tail weight

Piratefish created the topic: measuring tail weight

I have a Gen 1 Stryker Hydro with a 35QD motor in it. I here talk about tail weight and it should be about 1 1/2 - 2 pounds. The motor is set at 22 5/8 measuring from the back of the transom to the center of the spark plug.

I have a digital fishing scale which i hooked on the prop shaft and lifted until the back of the boat just came off the stand. it weighed in at 4lb 2oz. Is there a difference between lift weight and resting weight?? (like down force?)

Working on a hard flat table, elevate front sponsons on a stack of books, block of wood or what ever having the trailing edge of sponsons setting on this surface.
Place a small scale, postal or like under the strut. ** Make sure boat is setting level.

This will show the weight thats on rear of the hull as it rides on the water.

Scott's method is a GREAT tip! The tail weight is the weight on the prop at running attitude as Scott said. If you lift the back end too high with the scale the whole ride pads start to touch the table and then you are raising the entire boat. When checking the tail weight you only lift enough to get the strut off the table, the front of the boat should be pivoting on the back tips of the sponsons. Doing it with the books is a great way to do it accurately!
