Hydro Setup Tips

highcomp26 replied the topic: Re:Hydro Setup Tips

What would cause my Seducer to spin out like a 180 sometimes 360 spin depending on my speed. If I am coming down the straights and the boat pulls left and I steer it right it will just spin out. Any ideas whats causing this?:(

Honestly, it sounds like a bad, or too weak servo. I had an Insane Hydro doing that to me...my first sport hydro...I quickly found out that you need at least a good 200oz servo, and metal gears. That's what I'd look at first!

I tested the servo on the table by holding the rudder and there was allot of torque in that servo, do you still think it can be bad???

Really sounds to me like the rudder isn`t being held sufficiently...could be bad servo, servo too weak, bad/weak linkage...does your servo have at least 200oz of torque? Does the linkage flex?

Also is there any advantages to going with a digital servo than analog?

Digitals typically have much better standing torque and can have better response, but in all honesty, I run mostly regular quarter scale metal gear servos and have no problems.

After reading your tips on setting up a hydro hull, I am embarrassed at the level of ignorance I approached the subject with 26 years ago. Having never owned a store-bought hydro, I designed and scratch built a shovel-nose hydro with tunnel hull and rear sponsons. While I had fun doing it, I winged the whole thing, and in fact the boat was never finished. I married while getting ready to paint it, and since 1983 it has been in a box. I posted a photo earlier today on a forum thread started by Griz, a guy who apparently lives in San Antonio, Tx. After reading your article, I think I am fortunate I never finished and put it in the water. It would likely be at the bottom of a pond or lake right now. I did enjoy the information..Thanks
