Skiff Setup Help

mitchesx created the topic: Skiff Setup Help

Can anyone give me some help on setting up an Aeromarine skiff? Probably going to use a mod 260, how far from the inside of the transom? I figure its subsurface, how far below the bottom should the center of the prop hub be? Is there a prop anyone recommends? Also figuring on Speedmaster hardware, double water pickup rudder, with a 3 inch set back, but what size trim tabs, and I'm not sure if they use a turn fin(?) Cant find any clear pics of a transom! Thanks, guys!

On my skiff I have the motor as close as I could to the bulkhead in the front. I have a gas bag in front of the bulkhead. I have 30 oz of lead on the stringers with most of it just ahead of the bulkhead and about 6 or 8 oz just behind the bulkhead. My strut is through the bottom and real close to the transom, the drive dog is just behind the transom. I use a 3" setback full length duel pickup top secret boats rudder. The trim tabs are the small speedmaster tabs 1 1/2 inch off the center of the boat and set even to just a little up from the bottom. Mine likes a 6717/3 round tip stainless prop from Dasboata. Runs fast down the straight and if you are brave and smooooth on the steering you can hold it wide open in the corners.

Thanks for the help Jimmy! Kinda sounds like they run like the real thing especially through the corners. Quick question, the tabs are the 1" tabs, I don't need anything wider? Guess I got too used to monos, but skiffs (being flatbottom), are an animal of a different color. Also, are you using an Aeromarine strut? Thanks again!
