cyclone45 created the topic: New to forum and to Gas boats!!!!!

Hi, This is my first post and I would like to say hi to everyone. I just bought my first gas boat and had a few ?'s about it.
I have been reading this forum for some time now and am very impressed by the amount of help you guys give. The boat is a aeromarine cyclone 45 with a toxic racing full mod motor with speedmaster hardware. I bought the boat used and in like new condition and sould have it in a week. My ? is what would be a good prop to start wih to get me in he ballpark. I was thinking of a prather 275 but like I said, I am new to gas boats. I cant wait to get the boat and finaly drive it.... The guy that sold it to me has been a great help. I just want more input on the prop. I will be doing alot of reading in the prop section in the next couple days. Thanks Jason :)

The Cyclone is a pretty big hull for a Zenoah. I've run it with 35cc engines. The Prather 275 seems like too large of a prop for today's engines. Something around 65 to 67 mm diameter should be better. The Prop Shop props from Bob Austin would be a good place to start, I'd consider a 6717 or 6518.

Ukiah, Nice area. Lived up above Willits in Laytonville for a few years myself.

What happens with a BIG boat and smaller engine is you must prop down to blades having less pitch ratio but larger blade area. Speed will suffer but boat will still run pretty well.

Try and stay with pitch ratios of @ 1.4 or less. Diameters in 68-75 mm range .... JMO
