Unknown Hydro Please Help

MANE created the topic: Unknown Hydro Please Help

I bought this hydro about a year ago off ebay and the guy told me it was a aeromarine brand. He sent me a reciept from aeromarine with the boat when I purchased it, (credit card reciept also),but the boat dosen't have their label inside like my v-bottom aeromarine boat. The reciept says "Seahawk Hydro 45", when I e-mailed aeromarine for advice on rigging and parts they said they never made such a boat. On their website they also don't have a hydro with the deminsions of this boat. The boat is 45" long and about 23" Wide. Can anyone tell me if this is an aeromarine boat and if not whose is it. The only reason I am wanting to know is for rigging advice such as engine placement, stuffing tube placement, and strut/rudder installation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jason

Looks like an Aeromarine "Thunderbolt" Gas sport hydro pretty much ???

But then again you have confirmed it is indeed NOT one.

Set-up should still be straight forward rigging, engine way forward, radio box behind, keeping transom weight at @
8-12% of total once fully rigged.

I just checked my Thunderbolt...the label and serial number is situated on the bottom between the front and back hatch openings in the deck. The stringers are not shaped the same where the engine goes...looks like you got yourself a copy there. On the outside it seems to be the same.

Can you guys tell me which side is best for the rudder, I've noticed it on both sides looking at other boats on here. Also how far from the transom or in relation to the prop?

On that hull, Suggest right side rudder at @ 2 1/2' - 3" right of centerline with a Shorty bracket.
Extended speedmaster strut.

You could call Aeromarine and ask them for setup specs for the Thunderbolt..looks to be about the same anyway. I talked with Remy just recently and he told me they were putting together a setup sheet for the Thunderbolt, so it might be ready by now. Scott's recommendations sound good to me as far as strut and rudder placement. I personally would put the rudder right at 2.5" to the right of the strut (that is measured from center of strut blade to center of rudder blade). It should put the rudder about in line with the right side stringer assuming they are properly spaced. Tail weight, you should aim for about 1.5 -2 lb.(I would shoot for 1.5lb) Engine placement, your sparkplug should be at about 29" from inside the transom from the looks of mine (haven't built it yet) but you can confirm this by having everything positioned in the hull and checking tail weight. As for turn fins, I know Bob Austin at the Propworks makes a good one and I would think others like Insane, Seaducer or Blazer would have some that'll work also. Aeromarine do make one for the hydro, but it looks big to me...haven't tried it yet so I don't want to comment on it yet.

Hope this helps.
