Will this engine be any good?

I'm new to this and looking to build a boat for fun. My uncle had an old weed eater power head that he gave to me and I am wondering if it would be any good. It is a cub cadet 4 cycle.

It is a heavy engine compared to the weight of what is available today. If you have a large hull 60"+ or are building one for just play, then this might work for you , although finding mount hardware as well as drive hardware can be cumbersome or an issue

One of our club members brought his beautiful Chris Craft scale cruiser out this past weekend for a club demonstration day. It is powered by a 4 stroke that's been water cooled, has a clutch, and electric remote starter. Dual transom exh. ( quiet! ) AND reverse! It's not fast ( isn't supposed to be ), but it looks and sounds very scale. That's the kind of ride that a 4 stroke really works well for.

Thank you for the replies. I think I will keep hunting something smaller.

Those front recoils are bad about breaking. To repair it you have to take the motor completely out of the case. 1 hr job. and the parts aren't cheap. And if those clutch plates are worn you won't get the prop to stop at idle. Hope that helps!
