Tuned pipe

davidpaul created the topic: Tuned pipe

Hello, I have just brought a new stainless tuned pipe and the stinger/outlet is quite long about 4" can I trim this or will it affect performance ?

Generally shortening the outlet stinger length will decrease back pressure within pipe having characteristic be a tad more RPM biased and offer a tad less torque.

IF ? ... pipe is designed for 25 cc engines and using it on lets say a 28-30 cc engine the cutting actually may find you more power ?

Just curious before you cut tuned pipe --- have you already trimmed the header to get correct 'power band' length

or

is header still long and you want to trim tuned pipe to fit inside a boat ???

Yes the header has been trimed, the tuned length is 12 1/2" at the moment, It was the outlet of the tuned pipe I wanted to know about. Thank you

How will you secure your pipe if you cut the tail off?

I don't want to cut it off completely, I just wanted to know if I can shorten it without affecting performance. The alloy pipe I have has only 1" of stinger out the rear of the pipe, the new stainless pipe has nearly 4"

Hi David

Your photo caught my eye as I have been using this tuned pipe on my Lynx for over two years. The tail pipe on mine is about 2 inches long and came that length from new. 4 inches sounds a very long tail!

I kept mine uncut because I needed to fit the extra silencer as these pipes are noisy without so perhaps bear in mind the possible need for extra silencing before you cut any off the end.

This photo shows my pipe installed. Oh and I do like the way these pipes clamp onto the header pipe as opposed to those that use O rings to slide on as it is much more secure and there is zero chance of cooling failure by way of perished O rings.

Cheers

Hi Craig,

I may have used "fisherman's arms" when I said 4" but it is quite long, anyway I'm going to leave it as is at the moment and see how things go.

Nice boat you have there, I have the Falcon cat fitted with a RCMK engine which has a stroker crank and higer compression.

I also like the clamp much nicer than the o-ring type.

Cheers Paul
