Water Line Routing

toddyrotten created the topic: Water Line Routing

I'm running the water cooling lines in my 50". It has a 26cc engine with a box muffler attached directly to the engine. My question is can I run the cooling hose from the water pick up to the head, then out to the water port on the muffler, or is it better for the head and muffler to have their own separate water lines?

Hi

Personally I would use two separate pickups and water lines.

That way you can if needed easily adjust the water flow rates independently.

Yes u can run that way - don't over complicate if not needed. Most sport boats seem to have TOO much cooling

I run a single hose on many - (if water is cool - I live in northern Canada) from pickup to exhaust flange to head to tuned pipe (if needed) I run this way if trying to get heat in .

If too hot I will run from pickup to head to exhaust flange to tuned pipe(if needed) and out .

I run hot pipes so not many of mine to tuned pipe.

Simple is better - try it see how hot it gets - if it does at all. Tune water flow for race boats - play boats keep it simple as long as it works.

I will try the single line approach. Will definitely make the plumbing easier with the water pump installation. Thanks. :)

I'll give this a shot. I've yet to put on some small zip ties at the water line connections.

Hi Toddy
I am now confused.
The photo that you display appears to show two water feeds to your engine and components?
And now we are talking of a water pump. And I see a T splitter within the piping?
That to me seems a lot more complicated than an independent two line set up as I suggested earlier.
Forgive me if I have missed the plot here.
Cheers

Keeping things simple with two independent water feeds (from the rudder):
First tube goes into the cylinder head and out through the side.
Second tube feeds my manifold header at the exhaust port of the engine. Then that same tube feeds the cooling jacket of the tuned pipe and out through the side of the boat.
Both circuits can be adjusted for flow rate if need be. I have never needed to.
Hopefully the image shows the above set up.

That's a bad-ass boat you have there Craig. I figured I'd try the single feed line set up. It's just a sport boat and the water here is still pretty cold. I then just spliced in a water pump and it's fed off the second rudder pick-up. The Y fitting should prevent back flow back to the rudder at idle. When the boat is moving, I won't have to worry about any flow restriction from the water pump. The pump is piped in in parallel instead of in series. The plumbing would be way more complicated if I had two separate feed lines, one feeding the head, and one feeding the muffler then spliced in a water pump to feed both. I would then also have to have another water pick up to feed the pump. Don't feel bad about being confused, I confuse myself sometimes.

What on earth is a "bad-ass boat" as you put it?

It's a compliment on your boat.
