Name this boat??? And cooling help.....

LCYrace created the topic: Name this boat??? And cooling help.....

Hello all,

New to this forum. I own a hobby store but don't sell many boats other than RTR electrics. Had a customer bring me this boat a few years ago to install a new motor and radio gear. He never paid so the boat is now mine. Any idea what it is? I assume it is fairly old but has new paint and hardware. The hull is 54" in length. New 260pum with clutch. Prather 270. Hobby warehouse V1 wet pipe. Proboat water-pump. Also, I ran it today and had problems with cooling. The rudder mount was angled up so the rudder intake hole was right at the prop. I reversed the mount to drop the rudder about an inch below the prop. Does this look like it should work. I really don't want to fry the new motor. Thanks for your time!!!!!

For sure it's a classic cigarette type.
15 years ago I had one in half the size of yours. Just a toyboat running on batteries.
It looked excactly like yours. If I find out about the name, I will let you know.
Now I am building a similar one in wood - by sketch and scratch. The hull is also 54" and looks very much like yours. Only difference is the engine, a 14 HP Blata powering twin sterndrives.
My build is not nearly ready now (see pics in "my smokin' cigarette"), but if it's possible, I would really like to know more about the top speed of your cigarette.

Cheers! :cheer:

Woodie

Added later: Correction. My cigarette hull is 56" long (and 12" wide).

If you are using fuel line for your cooling lines DON'T it can restrict water flow.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to take some pics of the cooling lines tomorrow as I took the boat back to my shop today. I ran it this morning and still have nearly zero water exiting the side water outlet. I blow through the pickup line and there is some restriction but I can blow through it without much effort. I was wondering if the exhaust can create enough pressure to stop the water from entering the system? I have the rudder pickup line tee'd so it splits the water before the pump. This pump has 2 inlets and 2 outlets. I see others using a similar rudder pickup and it works for them so I cannot see why I cannot get any water to flow even when I get the boat up on plane. Very frustrating. Hopefully I just have something routed wrong. Or do I need to isolate the two systems? One pickup for the head and one for the pipe? Maybe a transom pickup for the whole system? I can build $2000 helicopters that work like a dream but this boat is killing me! Thanks again for the replies....

Thanks for the reply. That is the diagram I used to set mine up. There are 2 differences in my boat though. I only have 1 rudder so I only have 1 water pickup point. Also I have a wet pipe not a dry pipe like the Blackjack. So instead of the water travelling around the pipe after the manifold plate it injects the water into the header and into the exhaust flow right at the manifold to expansion chamber coupling. I expect there must be some back pressure at this point in the system that is causing the trouble. Anyone out there with a wet pipe system that can tell me how to correctly route the system?

The trim tab setup is of no use. When you get up on plane you have no trim tabs touching the water. You need 4 total and get the first one 1 1/4 " from CL or 1 inch way from the brass pipe. Make the second set 1/2 -3/4 " from the first set. Add a spin fin our your turns will be over reacting. You'll spin out on a turns. Hope this helps

Thanks Neil for the tips. I think this boat was designed by the original owner to be more scale. He said he had it painted just like his real boat. Not sure how aggressive I will be with it. Probably just gonna be a fun boat but if I have turning troubles I will add a spin fin.

Designed a transom pickup to supplement the water supply. Hopefully that should stuff some water in the engine.
