AM XXX

seaboyblue created the topic: AM XXX

Hello Everyone,

After reading the review of this hull, I have finally made my decision as to what I want this winter. I have a few questions about the XXX hull.
What speeds will I expect with a C&C 260? I read Marc's review and it mentioned that an extended rudder for handling would be a good choise. What hardware are you guys using? I was never a big fan of Aeromarine hardware, too clumsy looking for my liking. I prefer Speedmaster. Should I use surface drive or strut setup? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
BTW Marc, nice video of the XXX. ;)

You can definitely build the XXX with all Speedmaster hardware, or TopSecret Boats hardware for that matter. I simply did it with the AM hardware because that was what came with the Hull/Hardware combo from Aeromarine. I also wanted to prove a point! lol Everyone was telling me that the boat would not run good with the AM hardware...well as you can see in the videos that's not true...it's all about setup. This is a very good boat for sport or racing. It is quite similar to a Lazer 45 for setup, so you can follow that setup sheet and use the same hardware. Look in the Resources section of this site under Setups/monos...the Lazer 45 setup info is there! Good luck!

*** Aeromarine are now taping the deck/hull seam on all new XXX hulls, which is a great plus!

Marc,

Thanks for all the info here on MGB. I will definately try this hull this winter with Top Secret Hardware. Your setup was really neat and detailed. Any prop suggestions? What type of speed were you reaching in the video?

The first video was with a J&G Hemi engine...not sure of the speeds, never GPSed it... :-\ I would guess high 50's... the second video is with the rudder extension and setup tuned with a Voodoo 7016/2 SS prop...modified Zenoah G260, was running 57-59mph...trimmed a little loose...I think it will heat race in the 56-58mph range easy.

Coach- 60mph sounds like a winner. What are some other props you tried?

Marc - I studied the video a little more. The XXX was runnin' sweet. Did she have a tendency to hop or wobble in the corner? If any XXX could handle well in the corner at full bore I definately want one. Which motor ran better in that hull ?

Ofna 2005 - Sorry mate, I want to keep that one. Can I interest you in a Gen 2? ;D

Both motors ran well in the boat...I just personally prefer the 260 because of lower cost and maintenance than the billet engines. The boat ran really well through turns. I think Coach is onto something with the 4 blade props. These seem to calm a fast boat down in most cases. I saw a lot of guys running those at the Nationals.

Anthoni sorry, I'm just getting back to you :-[ I was running the Chopper 4 blade ABC but the Rx went bad and she ran ashore :'( I only had one other prop to try it was given to me by the Master Bob Austin, I was told by him to try it and let him know how it work. :o :o :o is all I can say the boat ran great with the chopper but, this monster prop was a beast of a monster. Call bob at propworks.com and ask him what prop he's doing for a XXX/ Lazer 45. It was a 3 blade prop shop prop cleaver. I think I know what it was but don't want to call out the wrong prop. it was a prototype for me to try cleaver
