Prop Box home made?

Craig Dickson created the topic: Prop Box home made?

Hi folks

Within the threads of this forum I have seen some fabulous prop boxes. As I have been investing in propellers I decided that it was time to make my own prop box.

For me I figured that there were only a few propellers that I actually used or tested at the lake side. For that reason I wanted a box that contained only six of my preferred props.

I wanted to ensure that each prop was held in a way that guaranteed that all sharp edges would remain out of contact with surfaces that might cause damage in transit.

The tricky bit of my home made box was the Oak turned spigots that held the props.

They had to be turned accurately on my lathe to ensure that they fitted securely in the base of the box and with ideal tolerances to allow the props to drop into them without any binding.

Here are a couple of images:

Thanks for the compliments folks.

Woodie

It was made out of off cuts, sides I think Meranti and the bottom and sliding top (not shown) was just 6mm thick ply.

Today I was at a local multi racing event and some competitors had a dozen or so props just chucked in to their tool box tray. There was me thinking, "If you've spent good money on top props and got them razor sharp, why neglect them like that?"

Each to their own I guess.

Cheers

I made this one today. I found a surplus store that had these lockable boxes. I bought all 8 of them
That's all that they had.
