Waterjacket Screws

seaboyblue created the topic: Waterjacket Screws

Hello guys,
I have had little trouble with my 260 in regards to water jacket screws. The two screws revved out and can't seem to find replacement screws. I found self tapping screws and used them with a little threadlock. The next time I ran my boat, those self tapping screws came loose as well. I think I may have done more harm than good with my fix. Can anyone help with this problem? I may have to buy a square water jacket if I can't fix this problem.

Thanks

Anthoni,

Since you used self tapping screws, I am assuming the thread in the cylinder are no longer the stock size. I would try to find some "Helicoil" thread inserts to fix it up. You will have to be very careful when drilling and tapping to make sure you don't go through the cylinder. Otherwise, you might try and see if you can simply tap the holes to M4 if there is enough material there. You will also have to drill out the holes in the jacket to match the new screws.

You can sometimes find the inserts on Ebay or similar places. Here is an example: M3 Helicoil on Ebay

Thanks alot Marc,
I thought about it, and I rather use a Bonzi square waterjacket. I dont want to take the chance and drill throught the cylinder like you said. I'd rather spend $60 on a square jacket to be on the safe side. I have a habbit of being a little clumsy when it comes to fixing things like this. LOL :D Thanks alot for the info. By the way, I like the new website. Keep up the good work.
