Easy Trim Tabs

marc created the topic: Easy Trim Tabs

Here's how I make my own trim tabs...very easy and economical.

I get the stainless steel plate from McMaster as well as the ss nuts and bolts. You could find similar plate from old kitchen appliances at the scrap yard / recycling centers though. Like toaster skins, ss fridge skins etc.

First pic shows Aluminum angle cut and ss plates cut. Note: these tabs were made for a crackerbox, thus the left wider fin with angled side.

Front of plates have been bent to match angle alum. Do this in a vise.

Bending the side of the tab (for Crackerbox use).. I clamp the plate in the vise with a thick aluminum plate backing it. Using a second thick aluminum plate to bent it with light taps from a hammer. The alum plate you use should be at least as long at the plate you are bending to get a nice even bend. I use alum because it's soft and won't mark the stainless steel.

Adjustment screws installed. This is easy. 8-32 SS screws (1" long) with a nut to lock them into place when proper adjustment is set. They thread into the aluminum angle and push down against the ss plates.
