Help idenitifing an engine

tapkoote created the topic: Help idenitifing an engine

I've taken apart a McCloch 320 chain sawWonder what engine it is
has a zama carb.
Any help or links to sites would be great, it's not necessarly going in to a boat.
But possibly an air boat.

As you can see the rotor has play , may need rebuild
I know the carb needs diaphrams, which I can't get--it's too old for the saw shop.

Mac 320 ... gawd I age myself :S
was working on these mid to late 1980's ....
Hot little 30cc engines and pretty dang tough, tho built within a plastic POS housing McCulloch called a "home owner" chain saw.

If memory is right, external pulse plumbing for carb, wire throttle cable and s really simple clutch assm.

What else you wish to strain my memory on remembering ???????

Hi Scott
you're absoultly right, my dad and I got it in 78.
I ran it till every this that could fall off/and or crack did.
the housing is pot metal.
Where to i find the carb parts
is there bearings or bushings in the bottom end?
Rings available?
would rather run a walborow carb.

Walbro had HDA series carbs back in the day that fit that series of saws.

being it is in the displacement range a WT-257 was designed for ... there ya go, adapt it and run one of those :woohoo:

Roller bearing mains ... fracture rod with loose needles, rings are going to be OEM only if you can get.

thats gonna a great motor for an airboat, with the reverse rotation means you can run normal puller props as pushers which gives you more selection.
Clean it up with a nice paint job, build the mount and cage around the motor and your off and running. ;)

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

I was afraid you might say some thing like that Scott, how ever you can still help.
i have a 257 in peices in front of me, It apears there is an embossed spot on the bottom plate. Which could be drilled and tapped for the line on the intake manifold. It's red at the tip of the pen.

And hello Ozpluse, you seem to have some knowledge of this motor
but down there isn't everything in reverse?? :) lol
Seriously, I saw an air boat you built with a pulling prop, when I get further along can I pick your brain some? Looks as if the prop will cool the engine??
Thanks folks

Ozpulse
I'm wrong, that fellow was from New Zealand W/the air boat pic.
He's right next door though.

Well heres a vid to keep you motivated anyway! ;)

You can pick my brain anytime, what you find may disturb you though!

Gas motors as pushers are ok as far as cooling is concerned, the big props drag enough air past the jug to keep it cool enough then you also have the airflow from going flat out all the time! :woohoo:
