flat bottom gas airboat build!

baskarz replied the topic: Re: flat bottom gas airboat build!

The dog does a good job by letting me know if someone is near the front gate :P

went and picked up some more luan ply to start skinning the frame. Got the flat bottom done today and the frame all epoxied together and square ;)

Im on holidays at the moment so should have most of the hull finished by the end of the week, hopefully engine mounts and rudders too :cheer:

Bit more progress.
Finished skinning the bottom and sides of the hull. I added in a solid timber peice across the nose to give it a bit of strength in the event i run into something. :P
coupla little gaps where got a little too happy with the sander :S all good tho, i'll fill in the gaps with bodyfiller :)

got the engine mount made up and engine mounted. Hopefully will be strong enough.
Gotta go pick up some epoxy tomorrow to coat the inside of the hull so i can stick the deck on.
Still to make up the cage but i can do that once i've got the deck on.
Rudders i'll make out of either the 3 or 6mm ply or 3mm aluminum, i'm open to suggestions with that, i think the ply will be lighter but the ally will be stonger...

Got more done on the weekend.
Hull nearly finished, just a bit more sanding and patching then seal er up :)
At the moment the hull weighs just under 4kg, hoping its not too heavy, time will tell I guess...
Have a 15x6 prop on order as well as some new servos and reciever (can't be bothered pulling the radio gear out of me mono)

Ooo just noticed i have become a "senior boarder " now :cheer: gives me a warm fuzzy feeling :P

Anyhoo, little bit more done. Progress has slowed down a little as i have run out of 5 minute epoxy so now i am using this "megapoxy " i got from the old man which takes 24 hours to cure, but DAMN this stuff is strong.

Ive sorted out the hatches for the radio box and fuel tank, just need make a little hinged door for the last bit of the fuel box opening.

looking good buddy! B)
The adjustable engine mount is cool.
Now your a 'senior boarder' we will have to make room for your walking frame.

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Nearly done, hull sealed and painted, the yellow came out pretty ordinary due to me buying $3 cans of spraypaint.
Once im happy with the way it runs i will sand and recoat the deck with some decent paint like i used on my mono.

Motor and rudders mounted up, fuel tank and line in, just need to bolt the servos in and hook up the control cables.
I ran the motor earlier to get it tuned up, all good so far, nothing rattled apart.
It weighs in at 8.5kg (nearly 19lbs!) but seems to have enough thrust to start moving off the mat in my shed when gassin it :)

Ah, well.

It's not an aeroplane. Is it a boat? Or is it a piece of plywood with a propeller on it? B)
NO! Just pulling your leg, Baskarz! It looks really good, but like Ozpulse I really miss a video of some good run too.
Get back into the game Baskarz!

Cheers and good luck! :cheer:

Haha woodie, its actually a whole mess of plywood with a propeller on top :p
There will be vids! Just gotta make time to get down the river. Gonna take the mono out for another run at the same time.
