First Build - Easy Vee Zipp Kits

charre2 replied the topic: Re:First Build - Easy Vee Zipp Kits

Pictures would be awesome. Also does anyone have any experience with the XP-2P drive from warehouse hobbies? This is supposed to be a budget build and I am a bit stuck between the zip kits hardware package and the XP-2P drive package.

Also Pictures of the engine so far...

I used the Zipp hardware on my EV and it works good. I did change out the needle bearings in the drive with oil-lite type. The needle bearings are harder to maintain because they rust. Rust is death to needle bearings.

I don't doubt zip hardware its just that Id rather buy the enforcer XP-2P because Its a more complete kit at a much less expensive price. Also I want to use this for wave running so I prefer a center rudder. However, I don't want to buy the XP-2P if its just not durable.

Makes sense. I don't have any experiance with the XP-ZP. I would put a small amount of glass on the inside joint where the bottom meets the transom. I have used mine for racing all summer long and it seperated a little in that area. Racing puts more stress on stuff but I would still do it for sport boating.

You can get an upgrade for it where the rudder plates are carbon fiber. On the website they claim that carbon fiber is stronger than aluminum, however I think that carbon fiber is just more flexible. I'm trying to weigh the options but the XP-2P drive with the carbon fiber plates is a very attractive choice.

Just an update:

The hull has come in, but I'm waiting for epoxy and glue from tower hobbies. Check back in a week for some awesome build picks. The hull looks awesome even though its still in the box. I also have mounting hardware on the way for the engine and Ive found a great budget Rx/Tx system called the FS-G2 system. Its a 2.4gh system for under 30 dollars that has been getting awesome reviews.

Your engine looks like one of the newer 26cc Homelites that have a slanted crankcase and you'll have to rig up mounts for that area. The older Homelites have a vertical crankcase which use mounts simular to these. Click on the writing under the pic of the engine and it will show pics of the mounts. I couldn't get a direct link to work. www.majorsmackdown.com/homelite.html
