Shark skin?

Woodie replied the topic: Re:Shark skin?

Moofy & Isuzu.

You are really an inspiration for me.
Moofy: I found a link to a german site: www.mhz-powerboats.com/shop/shop.htm
It seems to be much cheaper than mhzusa.com, but the sites setup is close to impossible. I just have to deal with that, I guess.
Isuzu: Thx very much for helping me out here. But i still think you can get that shark skin stuff as some sort of layer to glue on.
Anyway I hope this inspires some boaters to try new tricks. :)

It's very late for me, so I'm outta here for tonight. (Still with no karma-points) :(

Cheers! :cheer:

Woodie, I spent hours last night searching the web, I put in every phrase I could think of to get it to put up... Just can't find anything besides the paint  The only other thing that came up self-adhesive was underlay fabric for your roof. Which I don't believe that would do the trick. I'll keep lookin' but I think this one has just about run it's course. Keep us posted if you find anything, this has really got my interest peaked!!!

The stuff I used was just an engine enamel that has a (fine) wrinkle finish!
I dont have the can anymore or I would tell you what brand I used.

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Hi
Ive used the VHT wrinkle finish paint, not on a boat :) but my cars rocker covers
the stuff adheres well and is fuel and heat proof.I dont need to worry about special paint,my spaying tech is so bad it ends up looking like wrinkle finish anyways :D

The only thing I've seen used in the marine industry is the paint. I've never seen a peel & stick application as it would most likely peel off with time & speed. The marine environment is a harsh one.

I remember the tape being used during the America's cup in 1987, caused a bit of controversy. Dennis Connor used a sharkskin tape from 3M to help him win the cup. The only reference I can find is this... Haven't heard of it since then.

Yep!

I also think Ian is on the track of something here.
Maybe I should try a contact to 3M? Not hoping for much as this stuff probably are very scientific and only made in special cases and for millionaires.
Nothing for a sorry model builder with funny ideas.

Well... first off, from what I've seen in your posts, is your not a SORRY boatbuilder! And 2nd, I lot of KICKA## stuff has come from "FUNNY" ideas!! You're probably right about the costs and special apps. though... But you will not know if you don't ask!! It sounds like ya still have a bit of recovery time left, use it to your advantage and take the time to do the research and ask the FUNNY questions while you're in a position to do so!!! ;) You might get lucky and find that pot of gold that will revolutionize model boat building!!! I say... "KICK BUTT, TAKE NAMES, AND GO FOR IT!!!!!!"
