Peter and I have been busy building, designing, and fabricating. Here's just a couple of units that we will test if this Winter ever stops. These are NOT copies of the much talked about buttons of late, rather our own design with variances in cooling, compression, flow patterns, ect. We are showing the "stock" Pioneer on the cyld. ( a beautiful piece ), 3 fabricated units, and there is one aftermarket coming from Les, that's still in the mail. The beauty of this Pioneer set-up, is we will be able to change out buttons with the motor in the boat, at the pond, in about 5 minutes tops.

Nice work Dennis! Best of luck in testing! What is that MONGO carb bolted to the cylinder? Something better than the WYK?? Went boating last Sunday and plan on it this one. Winter has been something of a myth out here this year. Brian

Thanks a lot Brian. I hope this isn't going to be one of those years where the ice melts in May, and starts forming again in Sept.
That's actually a well disguised fuel injection unit ... NOT! No just one of our oversized Zama carbs that we've been using forever. The throttle response is like injection though LOL. We just like the fuel delivery better than the 33s or smaller Walbros.

We get asked a lot about the big carbs. They are not worth ANYTHING as a "bolt-on". They will lose response, velocity, torque, and probably do nothing for the top end, over a well set-up 257/1048/WYK.

Dad forgot to mention our custom designed buttons run a modified 8mm plug over the standard 10mm. This has given us the option to play with chamber CC's and flow. Going to be a fun year.

Not even close to soft water yet, but the aftermarket button arrived yesterday from Les ( Performance Unlimited ). I have talked before about orders from the US taking a while to get to us here in southern Ontario, and this is a good example. It knocked around Florida from the 15th. to the 21st. before leaving the state! ( NOT Les' fault ) Then between Canada Customs and Canada Post, we finally got it on the 31st.

Anyway, Les' button for the 30.5 Pioneer is a nice piece. Thanks Les.
From the outside, it appears identical to the factory button. The 55% squish band is machined straight at 15 degrees ( Zen piston dome close to 10 degrees



curved ), so even with a very tight squish clearance, there will be some additional volume added to the chamber. The band joins the chamber at a very sharp edge. The chamber rolls smoothly into a VERY SHALLOW toroidal configuration as it meets the 10mm. plug. The combination of a small chamber and the 10mm. plug, leaves little room for a pronounced profile.
Les' button will give us yet another option to test. Because we use 110 race gas in all our engines, detonation should not be a concern. We will be looking for any on the water performance differences from all the buttons.

Just an update on the last eng. fabrication before fire-up.

The "flywheel" is a 2" diameter, 1/4" thick disc that holds the .118" magnet that is cemented into the back side. The tiny magnet triggers the Power Spark brain box. Combined with a custom 1 1/2" hubless Redline starter pulley, It provides only 66.3 grams ( .3 grams is the magnet ) of rotating mass at the end of the short RCMK ( air cooled CR ) 30 mm. crank.

The custom front mount was fabricated out of 2" alum. plate and serves 3 purposes. It mounts the front of the motor ( DAH! ), holds and properly spaces the Power Spark sensor, and holds the TDC pointer ( #8 stainless machine screw cut down and pointed ). If a mechanical failure with the crank, rod, or flywheel position happens, the TDC red line/pointer will no longer align with the piston at TDC. This tells us instantly that there is internal damage. Black powder coat for easy cleaning ( and we like the look too LOL ).

Very happy with the final product. The gloss black mounts and flat black water cap, carb cover, and header work nicely to contrast the alum. Now lets fire it up and get it dirty!! Cant wait to open this thing up on the water.
