Piston Crowns And Surface Treatments

SRI Motorsports replied the topic: Piston Crowns And Surface Treatments

Thanks whitefish. I am no stranger here. I was registered a bit ago but my file was closed or something. I had only a few posts. Considering the 110 race fuel, it does smell when the fuel system is open, but i haven't noticed it to much when running. Either way i won't leave this fuel. It works so well for us and is a must for our engine building program, our eng wouldn't last on anything else. I understand the coatings and like them in larger scale engines. In our small engines the oil is enough to cool the components. JMO. I cant see the coatings in our small stuff to make or break a setup. As far as im concerned in our engines, a coating is a bandaid for a poorly setup cooling system and internal flow of fuel and air. I have yet to blow an engine or have bearing failure. If these coatings made a substantial difference all the companies would be doing it. Mass quantities would keep the cost down and affordable for the supplier and buyer. Still no one does it. Keep in mind internal tollerances must be adjusted for the few thou of coatifng. End result is more labour and care must be taken slowing production and raising cost. JMO.
