Thank you Scott for another informative explanation of what's happening in these engines.

Thanks Scott
I'm double glad I asked now.
I just built a gas buggy and fired it up with my boat gas mix.
It's air cooled and wont be doing any more of that.
How ever I did fire up the chain saw too cut up a small tree which had fallen on the neighbors power line.
Ran less than 1/2 hour in 32 degree weather, but will get that stuff out of there.
thanks again
PS I for got my drag bike was full of 101 race gas from fall of 08 till summer 11-- no ill effects.

I live in north and store stuff all the time -- we just add a shot of Sta-bil (gas additive for storing fuel) give it a shake - shot of lube in spark plug hole - few slow pulls - clean it

and  good till next year

use this for any fuel or 'toy'

I've used coleman fuel in both my HPI Baja buggy and my weedeater for 2 years with no problems whatsoever. I use the same mix as my boats, 10oz per gal. The weedeater starts and runs way better with coleman than it does with regular gas. I've had the cooling fins so full of grass and dirt on the buggy that it gets basically no air at all but still runs like a champ. Not sure where people get the idea that it won't work.

I'm actually leaning to your side of this discution. My buddy has been running his boat mix in his RC truck for years. I've got an old hedge trimmer I'll try it out on. He runs 8 to one mix.
Maybe 50 to one is too lean for aircooled engines.

The start of this post is Chainsaws .. not weed trimmers or RC trucks
If you use it in your chainsaw - it WILL burn the saw out .... not the same as low compression air cooled engines

I have been around logging for 35+ years ... seen many burnt out saws, generators and boat engines. I live in Northern Canada I cut a few cords of wood every year just for heat and have for Many years ..........

Why would I use something that is 20.00 a gallon here (Coleman) for low octane - when I can have 96 Octane (with no ethonal Marine gas and a shot of Stabil) for a fraction of the cost ....... makes no sense ...

Even my Craftsman weed trimmer came with Stabil .... Guess Sear should have added some Coleman instead ..........

I usually don't discus religon, politics, spark plugs or motor oil.
I sort of mixed two topics here, the Stihl 210 "home owners" saw
and a stihl weed whacker.
Neither manual claims any compression numbers.
Why would a 21cc whacker have any less or more compression than a 35cc saw?
Would the 35cc have more squish?
Maybe some one could find the numbers.
canadian hotrod you are buying special fuel, and by the way you don't need stabil with "real gas".
The weed whacker carb fouled up, my own fault. i rebuilt it, still wouldn't run. Paid $35 to find out it was plugged and junk. Stihl wants $75 for a new carb, basicaly making the $200 whacker disposable.
I could see the guy thought I say some thing like "just keep it then".
I told him I'd get a walbro for it.
The saw has virtually the same carb, I expect at some time to replace that carb.

From Stihl which I use

www.stihlusa.com/information/i...fuelissues.html

I Quote

The most important thing you can do is buy name brand (89 or higher) octane fuel. The reason is that name brand fuel (Shell, EXXON, BP, CITGO, etc.) is blended more consistently and should be fresher and of a higher quality than fuel bought at a retailer with no brand on the pump

Another suggestion that you might consider is to add a fuel stabilizer, such as STABIL

Read the Prepare it for long term storage part

Coleman is what 60 at most ?

And still costs more money ??

Oh and REAL GAS - ?? I run Chevron 96 Marine with no ethanol - and use Stabil in many things --- as per warranty
Plus we get minus 30 C or more and don't have some local guy come rescue me if my power blips .... our stuff has to work it's not a luxury or a toy with our 'tools'

Real gas .........

When I started this thread I figured I was opening a can of worms.
I guessed what Scotts answer would be, since he worked in the repair business.
I didn’t anticipate a p**sing contest.
This will be my last comment.
Canadian hot rod, your first reply seemed a little edgy. Aren’t you the guy who gladly mailed me gas plugs for one of my tanks?
Any way, yes exactly” good gas,” you’re buying good gas, it doesn’t need any stabilizer. Even at minus 18 degrees.
I can’t test it down here but you could.
I personally leave all my equipment dry, save one street bike. Which gets a tank of race gas.
The rc stuff is in the house; don’t want the gas smell in here.
As far as the warranty goes, I put up 6 cords of wood each summer. Two-year warranty is 12 cords. If this little saw couldn’t do that, I’d get it fixed and sell it, find another brand.
Don’t know what “call the local guy” means. If you refer to using my saw to clear the sidewalk, no one called me.
There is a fair amount of foot traffic, to and from the buss stop. People spent all day walking around, into the icy street.
The power company made one cut and piled it up on the sidewalk. Clearing a path seemed like the right thing to do.
I’m sure you’d have done the same without being asked.
How ever I always try to help when asked.
You’ll hear no more from me
