CY Weedy Engine!

Ozpulse created the topic: CY Weedy Engine!

Thought I would post up a thread on my new Weedy engine that I picked up for the grand sum of $5 at the local recycling centre. :woohoo:
Was a near new 'TALON' snipper but had no trimming head so got it cheaper.
After asking around I have found out it is a CY based motor, the main reason I picked it up was the way it is set up which is perfect for a boat.
Came with a huge heavy 'Easy Start' assy but have removed it and my Zen starter bolted straight up with no mods. so that saved a fair bit of weight.
As I do bit and pieces to the motor I will post it up here till I get it into a hull and running. ;)
Some pics.

Starter swapped,

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Cheers Marc, you can imagine how reluctant I was to throw a whole $5 to the wind!
Even if I splurge out and buy a water cooled topend kit for it later on it will still be a real cheap power plant for a fun boat.
If your going to build a 'Weedy' boat, you might as well start with a good 'Weedy' engine.
The other bonus is the bolt patterns means if I want to (afford it)I can buy proper engine mounts and keep it all nice and neat. B)

Absolutely.. I agree 100% with everything said. It's a great find. Easily upgradeable and should perform well right "out of the box". Reminds me of old G2D Zenoahs. :)

Hey Doug! Long time no speak! ;)
Its going to take all day for me to look through everything you put up!
Looked at Daves quickly the other day while musing over what to do, I do know this head is a 4 port (already removed the headgasket)
The coil is mounted on the head though which is annoying, I know I gave away another engine the same that the coil was mounted to the cover.
Starting to think more Zen aswell, the Zen 26 cc weedy iso block also bolted straight up so I can throw the 257 carby on now.
Its a rainy day today so I might tear the whole engine down for cleaning and some pics. just for something to do.
Theres plenty of guys still building weedy boats so I think its good to let them know whats out there.

Quick pic of the dismantled engine.
Nice and clean but has been running a bit rich(Typical Weedy)

I have noticed that everything has YP cast into it?
While its apart I might turbo mod the crank and smooth out the transfer port ledges above the bearings. Might as well do a couple of mods to the stock motor now its in bits.

Lower case halves, crank, transfers done.

Stayed very conservative with mods, more interested in improving flow. ;)

Hi Oz.

All this engine modyfying stuff is all chinese to me
So can I say it's looking good? Well I just do!
In my own project I have to trust my son (the marine engineer), to work out these things.
- Even though his experiences is about 10 cylinder 50.000 hp diesel engines :P

BTW: You have mail.

Cheers from Denmark! :cheer:

Cheers Woodie. ;)
Found out a bit more on the 'Talon' engine, the company had merged with 'Huskvarna' so that may be the reason for the different powerplant to what they used to use.
The old 'Talon' engines were never known for thier reliability.

Hi Oz.

I'm still an imbecile concerning engines. Allways remember that
But I can tell you that Husqvarna products are made in Sweden, neighbour to my country, Denmark.
Those swedes are known for making Simple, Safe and Solid engineering.
Just ask my old mom. Her pedal-driven and well used Husqvarna sewing machine is 60+ years old and still works perfect with no repairs at all.

Cheers! :cheer:
