Prop walk

marc replied the topic: Prop walk

1- I did not neglect to cool the exhaust manifold... When I say out to the pipe that englobes whatever cooling the pipe requires, be it flange and coupler or just flange. Pipe =complete pipe system.

2- I have been running Zenoahs since they were introduced. I live in northern Canada...let's just say we have cooler than average weather. :). In all my years running these engines I have NEVER had to reduce cooling to an engine. I have ALWAYS run cooling from rudder to engine to pipe, in that order. Heck, some of the review videos on this site show me testing the boats with ice on the lake and the cooling system was same as in summer. I really don't think it's as big a deal as a lot of guys make it out to be. That or I'm just lucky! :) I'm sticking to what has been proven to work for me...and when I give advise on this site I try to stick to this...what i know has worked for me. Best I can do! :)

I have to agree with Marc. I am in Southern California and in the summer time water temps reach close to 80 degrees, and I have never had a problem using only one cooling line. I think what's on the back of the boat in the picture is WAY overkill.

Monitoring temp while running is easy so is rpm and speed -- just their radio is ??

About controlling the temperature: Maybe someone have heard of a way to read the engine temperature while the engine runs at max rpm in a boat on the water?
Did not think so.
But I am ready to stand corrected, as I do not claim to be the wisest professor in this fine forum.

(You can allways get wiser).

BTW: I know nuthin' about propwalk. My boat will run with two counter rotating props.

Hi All Members,
With reference to checking engine temperatures while boat is running there are a few products available for that! Venom make one it has a wire loop that goes around the cylinder and then to the panel it will give you C/F deg's and will give you the temp when it was turned on the maximum temp and the temp when the boat is back at the jetty.Re; the Spektrum with the telementry DX3S/4Pro they have the engine temp/rpm but you don't want to try and see what the temp/rpm is while you are driving your boat/car you could could end up with some repair work the one on the motor is the best way to go check the motor when it is back at the jetty just my thoughts.
Woody congratulations on your build i have been watching with interest!

Kind regards to all,
Len,
Gold Streak.

Marc:

Thanks for the clarification you posted in reply number #20413. That
is news to me that it's OK to deliver cold water direct to the cooling
cap. I'm glad to know that is an option with these little boats.

Is it possible some R/C builders are so adamant about always routing
to exhaust manifold first and cooling cap second because they believe
it will increase cylinder temp slightly and might improve engine max
output a little? It is easy to become convinced about such concepts
without having real proof that it works as intended - especially
after reading it time and time again from other boaters.

Gold Streak: Thanks for the kind words. More news about the Cigarette will come soon.

Randy: Well... I truely stand corrected. Don't worry. I'm used to that after 33 years of marriage. :)

Steve: "IF YOU EVER GET IT FINISHED!!!!!" (???) - Ahh - yes Sir! Pretty much the same question that crossed my mind slightly after waiting 5 months for the pre-payed engine frames from you. (Here in Denmark we have a saying: "Don't throw stones, if you live in a house of glass"). So lay down your stones now.

Cheers! :cheer:

If you want the rudders that are serated on the leading edge, I need to get some material. I'm finishing up standoffs this week and early next next week so I won't be able to start anything else till late next week.
