An Alternative to Mono Hull Trim Tabs??

Craig Dickson replied the topic: Re: An Alternative to Mono Hull Trim Tabs??

Hi Randy

The other identical hull is that of my identical twin brother. He too has fitted the 2 wedges. I suggested the idea. He tried it first and loved the improvement, so having watched his boat in action I fitted them also.

Both of us were and are so pleased with the new set up that we feel no need to make further changes for the time being (believing if it ain’t broke don’t fix it).

We both have turn fins and they work fine. I personally think that the shape of this type of hull towards its bow (especially the chines that are pretty much flat all the way along and the deck line which curves down towards the bow) makes it prone to subbing. If the nose so much as touches the water (say in choppy conditions) it can unexpectedly take a dive. That for me has previously happened in straight runs and when entering a turn.

Hello
Kind of why I wondered about CG if bow is 'dipping' before turn . Is you CG more than 33% when full of fuel? Does it balance side to side?

What does Dave at Prestwich say? Would be curious as to his thoughts on this submarine boat u have. Does look quick in videos though...

Cheers

Randy

Hi Randy

To put the thing into perspective, the sub issue was an occasional issue only as I said previously. So definitely not a “Submarine Boat” <grin>.

I’ve not mentioned it to Dave as I like to find solutions by experimentation as I find I learn more that way even if the hard way.

I’ve had the boat 2 years and have loved it. C of G wise tank full or near empty has not made any noticeable difference to handling and it does not currently balance side to side that I have noticed. It did previously rock hard to starboard when on certain props although now with the wedges it is much better.

All in all for me it was just a matter of making a good boat better.

Cheers
