Need for bailers?

Scott and Oz.

"Goose neck sucktion bailer" and "looped pipe bailer" - is'nt that just about the same thing - and like my idea too?

Anyway, I plan to do without it untill I see if it's nessecary.
The boat won't sink, but I might have some trouble rinsing the engine for saltwater, if things go wrong. (WD40 should be useful, I've heard).

Hi Guys,
Looks like I am the odd one out on this topic. :( You can see I only run hydros and outriggers where I have auto bailers. I also have cat with a bailer that I make myself. Simple thing really, just a piece of Allum tubing with a small ball bearing and quarter of a ball point pen spring to hold the bearing against an internal flair whilst the boat in stationary in the water and when it is throttled the bearing then rolls against the spring through inertia. It is not rocket science.

Oz.

Don't be sorry mate.
As Scott said the auto bailers are right for outriggers and similar boats with no canopy.
In my case I will consider using a "suction drain", which is very simple and failsafe in its function and suited for a deeper hull.

Cheers! :cheer:

Hi folks

For my Lynx Mono I fitted an auto bailer comprising of a take apart tube that contains a little plastic light weight ball. If the boat stops the ball is forced inside the tube to seal against an internal O ring preventing water getting back in.

It has worked for me without fault however if using such a device I strongly recommend a thorough clean of the internals after each day's running. As others have said, any muck, grease or debris inside these clever but simple devices will cause problems with the ball sticking.

Hopefully two images should show here, one of the uninstalled device and the other of it installed at the bottom of my transom:

Those are some trick autobailers!!! Where they from?

Also, I really like the pushrod connector you used to tie them together...I usually just use regular wheel collars but those are really neat. Can I ask where you get those?

Perhaps I should crop the second photo to hide the rudder linkage connection such that the focus is on the Auto Bailer and its screw fixing!
