Rudder

Zen26 created the topic: Rudder

Hi Guys,
Nearly finished the boat now. I was wondering how far back from the propeller should the rudder be (ie. is the way it is in the photo below correct or does the rudder need the be futher away from the prop)

Thanks,
Brandon.

Most mono hulls work best when the leading edge of rudder is just behind the trailing tips of prop. ( 1/4" or so )

It really depends on the boat, but as Scott Said, its best to have the rudder out past the prop.

Lets see the strut is pretty standard, the rudder is just a standard one also with a 4" or so standoff. This is what most of us use ,ive never had any turning or handling issues by using those two items in his pic as they come.My boats turn left and right very well and they handle just fine.

I run mine further back as Scott said. I find they handle better & aren't as twitchy in the turns.

I agree that it will probably work ok as is, but I am like Scott and the others and try to set monos up so the leading edge of rudder is even with trailing edge of prop, or slightly behind. This seems to work very well on most monos setup for oval racing.
