new build maxcat v1l, will a gas motor fit

same plans you got , but i got them at modelpowerboat.com, they are for a 60" maxcatv1l, but i shrunk it down, bad mistake not anough room for gas motors, but im gonna make it work anyway lol its a home build anything is possible will post pics when the motor is in

need some help with motor, is it better to tip the motor back more to put less bend in the drive, because tiping back pretty much allows no room for a clutch, if i put the motor level i can put the clutch on, but i would have to move the motor forward and bend the drive cable down out of the boat and back up,

You can do a s bend in it.They say it takes the whip out of cable.Only draw back is you have to replace it, is more of a hassle.Have any pictures?

ok mounted the motor it sits a little high, but its in there, had to make a motor mount that would hold the clutch because its got a bearing on the clutch, didnt have any rubber motor mounts so i used little rubber washers out of a faucet repair kit, if the motor makes it tip to much ill put a 2 liter coke bottle on each side lol

yea that motor sits to high,should i put the motor more level and do the s curve in the drive tube? in mean time ill start my build on the next one, gonna be a mystic like the miss gieco need plans anyone got any, i want to make it 60" to 70" long 20" wide,

Great work. I guess that you've learned a bit of a lesson around planning such a build. I've gone through similar with a 40" mono.

Have you thought of deleting the clutch? Do you really need it?
Will have so much more room to get the motor as low and as flat as you can.
You do really want that weight as low as possible.
The straighter the flex shaft the better.

well i dont need the clutch, but i want one ,the flywheel is what keeps the motor high,if it was in the front wouldnt be a problem, i was looking to see if there was a way to hook up a different ignition with out the flywheel i have seen them on the zoenas oh well its gonna be tippy lol

i have a friend that has a shop with acouple mills lathes, so here goes my attemp to make my own drive, i dont have any measurements, so im just doing what comes to mind, heres some pics of what ive done so far, i got alot of work to yet, but im getting there, and this is my first time on a mill, so will see how it comes out.

the rudder is 2 1/8" bach from strut and the rudder is 2 1/2" below the drive shaft, the rudder is 1 5/8" width, the strut is centered at the bottom of the boat and can be moved up or down 5/8", the strut is 2"on the bottom hope that will be fine for the drive shaft

Looking good! It's fun to machine your own stuff when you can.

Make your strut adjustable so you can bring it up to about 1/2 - 5/8" ABOVE the bottom of the sponsons... that will give you the adjustment you need. A lot if not most cats run with the strut centerline higher than the sponson bottoms.

Also from what I can see you have no real "kickback" protection on the rudder... consider replacing the lower screw holding it to the brackets with a small (4-40 is normal) brass screw that will shear and let the rudder kick up on impact.
