new build maxcat v1l, will a gas motor fit

hi everyone been awhile since i been on here been building a wooden cat 44 length 12 3/4 width 5 hight, but i think im gonna have a problem with a gas motor fitting in side only have about 3" depth, ok, any one got any idea if it will tip to easy if motor is to high [file/]

Nice build you got going on there...Are the rear ride pad's stepped??

yes they are on the bottom

yes your motor looks that it may cause problems,,maybe not in the straights but certainly in the turns,,,,your doing a great job on the build,,,i wish i had woodworking skills ,,,i would definatley suggest a marine application motor,,,,good luck,and again great job

I agree with Scott, you should shoot for a 260 or something like that, even with a stocker it should move well. You could probably get a motor for <$200. It looks really good, Nice job so far!

thanks guys, doing my best on a budget build, i have a smaller motor 21 cc tanaka, sits a little lower, the flywheel is the problem holds the motor two high, tryed to turn the motor around, if i could get the motor to spark the otherway in reverse, i could lay it down alot lower, but it will only spark in one direction, tryed turning the coil around that dont work, any ideas how to get it to run the other direction, i guess sooner or later im gonna have to buy a motor, so for it weighs about 5 lb, the boat was gonna be 60" but i shrunk it to fit what i had to build it with, next one will have more room ,how many rpms does a stock zoana run, thanks again for all the input

You know, you could make a drop-down belly pan in the tunnel to allow the engine to sit lower. This is somewhat common in race cats. Insane Boats comes to mind.

Wow that Cat looks awsome! Where did you get the plans for that? I noticed you had a homelite engine you were trying to install and get to sit a little lower. Do you have access to a lathe and mill to make it water cooled and do a little porting on the engine? I purchased an aircraft engine from a trade show in ohio a few years ago that had a light weight ignition system on it. This was a homelite also, the block was milled down quite extensively to shave off weight. I drilled and tapped the front to take a motor mount for a boat. I'll have to get back to you for the name of the company that makes this system. What you would spend for this kit plus your time to shave down the motor you may be better off saving for a zenoah. I have a giant box of homelites,so thats what use. I build on a budget also.
