flat bottom gas airboat build!

Just keep it in the back of the car, you'll be surprised how many places you will pass that you can have a quick run on the way home.
Sports fields have nice trimmed grass and wide open spaces for ground running.lol
Ive stopped on the way home after rain and run my airboat in big roadside puddles. :laugh:
We've turned 'Tapkoote' over to the dark side now aswell, he's about to build one too! :evil:

I know that I truly am the slowest builder the World has ever seen. :ohmy:
It's not only due to my high demands to myself, but also because of the trouble of getting the perfect hardware for my Hammer.
Thanks to Steve Seebold and Kennyrach, this is about to be solved to my full satisfaction.
Soon I will have some perfect customized engine rails and a couple of beautiful high quality Z-stern drives at hand.
My build will continue then - and time is on my side now, as winter is closing in here.
Meaning there will be no chance for sailing in the next 7 months. (Huge and icy waves - if not totally icing).

But trust me: Building to perfection during the winter is not that bad.

ooo i could just imagine... i,d dread to see what size prop it could swing!

oz, i would keep it in the car, but i frequently lug my tools to and from work.
there have been times at work where ive driven past big shallow lakes and the like just off the side of the road and thought to myself "man i wish i had the boat right now"

i'm going to try take em out this weekend if the weather stays nice for me.

Got my reciever batts charged and ready, overcast but may take my flatty out today.
Need to test the hydro motor I put on it for static runs, got dentist this afternoon though.

Haha yeah yeah oz, I'm getting there. This forum is a lot more user friendly, so I will probably do it tonight. Is a bit of messing around posting pics n vids over there. Plus I've been a bit crook with sinus problems and can only stare at a screen for so long before headaches

Alrighty update time!
since last update i have completed the beast and ordered another prop (16x8 apc)and a Turnigy micro tacho.
Did some testing with the tacho before any runs.
With the 15x6 APC, i get a max of 8670rpm and with the 16x8 APC, i get a max of 7080rpm.
Not too bad guess considering i haven't gutted the muffler box and still have the stock carb on it.
I then gutted the muffler box and drilled 2 10mm holes, and the results were quite satisfying!
Now its spinning the 16x8 APC at 8190rpm, a gain of 1110rpm!
I even swapped over to the 15x6 and got 9450rpm, a gain of 780rpm.

All was great until i heard a strange rattle, i killed the motor to find the motor mount had a crack in it



so i made up a new engine mount out of 6mm aluminium that i found at the boatbuilders scrap bin that already had the 90 deg bend i wanted.
i used angle brackets to attach the mount to the uprights this time as ozpulse pointed out that with my old one, the adjacent 90 deg bends would have stressed/weakened the ally hence why it cracked.

This sod wont break! so i thought... instead of the ally breaking, the black pieces of angle cracked right up the slots!! At least i got a few runs and vids before they let go!
first run was next door at the park, was fun avoiding all the obstacles!

and here is its first water run! she turned out to be quite a handful to control but fun nonetheless :laugh: i did actually chuck my gps in it and did a bit of a speed run (still to scared to give it WOT on water yet )
anyways at about 3/4 throttle i got a top speed of 31Km/h.

I was having great fun spinnin about on the water, then i decided to venture out a little further to try get some high speed stuff.... dang thing went and sucked in a little water and stalled, right in the middle of the river. all i could do was just just back and let it slowly drift back into shore some half hour later :whistle:
in the mean time i chucked my mono in the water for a run after i swapped over to that old tuned pipe, got a new top speed of 36km/h!
